Residents of Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State have been confined to their homes following the imposition of a 24-hour curfew amid a fresh wave of violence and security concerns in the area. The emergency measure, announced by the Executive Chairperson of the council, Virginia Baba Bambur, is aimed at restoring order and tackling the growing security crisis affecting several communities.

Key Highlights:

  • 24-hour curfew imposed in Karim town, Didango and surrounding communities.
  • Authorities move to curb escalating violence and restore public order.
  • Security agencies directed to enforce the curfew strictly.
  • Investigation launched into the causes of the crisis.
  • Residents urged to cooperate with security operatives.
  • Government promises justice for victims and prosecution of perpetrators.

The curfew took effect on Thursday and will remain in force until further notice, according to an official statement issued by the local government administration.

The latest action comes amid worsening Taraba LGA insecurity, with reports of recurring attacks leading to loss of lives, destruction of property and heightened fear among residents. Communities affected by the unrest have witnessed rising tensions in recent weeks, prompting authorities to introduce emergency measures to prevent further escalation.

Explaining the decision, Bambur said the curfew became necessary to protect residents, contain violence and create an enabling environment for security agencies to carry out operations aimed at restoring peace and stability.
“The safety of our people remains our highest priority. The imposition of this curfew is a temporary but necessary measure to address the current security challenges and ensure that law and order are restored across the affected communities,” she stated.

To ensure compliance, the chairperson directed all security formations operating within the local government area, including the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to enforce the curfew rigorously.

Security personnel have also been instructed to intensify surveillance operations and maintain a strong presence in strategic locations across the affected communities.

As part of broader efforts to address the crisis, Bambur disclosed that authorities would conduct a comprehensive investigation into both the immediate and underlying causes of the violence. She assured residents that individuals found responsible for instigating or participating in criminal acts would be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The local government chairman reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to securing justice for victims and implementing measures that would prevent future occurrences.

While acknowledging the economic and humanitarian impact of the unrest, she appealed to residents to remain calm and support security agencies throughout the enforcement period.

According to her, the council is working closely with the Taraba State Government and relevant security institutions to restore lasting peace and ensure the resumption of normal social and economic activities.

Residents have been warned to comply fully with the curfew directive, as violators risk facing sanctions under the law.

The development highlights the growing challenge of Taraba LGA insecurity and underscores the need for coordinated action involving government authorities, security agencies, traditional rulers and community stakeholders.

Many residents expressed hope that the curfew and accompanying security operations would help restore calm, facilitate dialogue and pave the way for long-term peace and stability in the troubled communities.

As security operations continue, residents remain hopeful that the intervention will bring an end to the violence and enable affected families and communities to begin the process of recovery and rebuilding.
