Contractors from different parts of Nigeria who participated in the bid opening applauded the Taraba State Government for demonstrating openness, fairness and accountability throughout the exercise. The procurement covers the construction and equipping of a standard abattoir, two modern slaughterhouses and an international livestock market at Iware in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area.

Several bidders said the transparent conduct of the exercise boosted confidence in the procurement system and reflected adherence to best practices in public contracting.

“This is one of the most transparent bid-opening exercises we have witnessed anywhere in the country,” one of the participants said shortly after the exercise.

The commendation was also echoed by independent observers, including representatives of civil society organisations, who monitored the proceedings. They urged the Taraba State Government and the leadership of the Taraba L-PRES to sustain the high level of transparency by ensuring that successful contractors are selected strictly on merit and in accordance with procurement guidelines.

Speaking during the exercise, Taraba State L-PRES Coordinator, Hananiah Albert, described the bid opening as a major milestone in the implementation of projects designed to transform the state’s livestock sector.

According to Albert, the planned infrastructure will improve livestock production, promote hygienic meat processing, strengthen livestock marketing systems and stimulate economic activities across the agricultural value chain.

He explained that the projects are part of broader efforts to modernise livestock infrastructure, improve sector resilience and create new opportunities for investment, employment and sustainable livelihoods for livestock producers and traders.

Albert stressed that the procurement process is being conducted in strict compliance with the provisions of the Public Procurement Law and established procedures aimed at ensuring transparency, fairness, competitiveness and accountability.

He assured all participants that every bid submitted would be evaluated objectively based on the criteria outlined in the bidding documents.

“This exercise is an important step towards the successful implementation of these critical projects, which are designed to improve livestock infrastructure, promote hygienic meat processing, enhance livestock marketing and strengthen the agricultural economy of our state,” he said.

The coordinator also thanked prospective bidders, members of the Bid Opening Committee, representatives of government agencies, civil society organisations and the media for contributing to a credible and transparent procurement process.

Upon completion, the livestock infrastructure projects are expected to enhance meat processing standards, improve market access for livestock producers and traders, attract private investment and contribute significantly to the economic growth of Taraba State.
