Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Igboho, has questioned the delay in granting him approval to participate in efforts to rescue victims of the recent school kidnapping in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Speaking in a video that circulated on various social media platforms on Thursday, Igboho said he had informed relevant authorities, including the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, of his readiness to deploy his security team to assist in securing the release of the abducted victims.
According to him, despite offering his services without any financial demand, he was advised to remain patient while awaiting official authorization.
“I’m not asking for money. Governor Makinde knows I have the capacity to rescue the Oriire kidnapped victims.
“1 told themz I am submitting myself with my squad to rescue them, but they told us to be patient. But then, till when? Why hasn’t he granted me permission?” he said.
Igboho also referenced the ‘Iru Ekun’ Security Network, a security initiative he said previously received approval from the federal government.
He, however, alleged that the Oyo State government later opposed its operations, insisting that no security intervention should be carried out without official approval.
He noted that he complied with the directive, citing lessons from his past encounters with authorities.
“I established the ‘Iru Ekun’ Security Network and the federal government gave me the go-ahead. But the state government disapproved, saying no one is permitted to take any action without approval. I had to comply. You all know what happened to me five years ago,” he stated.

The activist maintained that his interest in the rescue mission was driven by concern for the safety of the victims and their families.
“I don’t have children in Nigeria that can be kidnapped. I’m only doing this because of the love I have for the nation and for people who don’t have anyone,” he added.
His remarks come amid growing public concern over the kidnapping of students and staff in parts of Oyo State, with calls intensifying for swift action to secure the safe release of those still in captivity.
As of the time of filing this report, the Oyo State government had not publicly responded to Igboho’s comments.
