Spanish prosecutors on Friday said they would seek a prison sentence of more than eight years against global music superstar Shakira, after she rejected a plea deal on accusations of tax evasion.
She is charged with failing to pay the Spanish government 14.5 million euros in taxes between 2012 and 2014.
The prosecutors said the Colombian superstar would also seek a fine of more than 23 million euros.
The 45-year-old “Hips don’t Lie” songstress this week rejected a settlement deal offered by prosecutors, opting to go to trial instead.

Prosecutors in Barcelona have alleged that she spent more than half of each year between 2012 and 2014 in Spain and should have paid taxes in the country.
The Grammy winner recently ended an 11-year-long relationship with FC Barcelona star Gerard Piqué, with whom she has two children.
A formal referral to court has not yet been announced, neither has a trial date been set.
