The Southern Nigeria People’s Mandate (SNPM), a socio-economic and political pressure group, has tasked the federal government to ensure value-addition to all exportable raw materials and produce in the country.

Key Highlights:

  • Southern Nigeria People’s Mandate urged local processing of raw materials before export.
  • Augustine Chukwudum said this would create jobs and boost the economy.
  • The group called on Bola Tinubu to address insecurity.
  • SNPM backed state and local policing for better security.
  • It also urged the government to strengthen the naira and improve living conditions.

Chairman of SNPM, Chief Augustine Chukwudum, said this in Enugu on Monday, after a four-hour deliberation on the three years of President Bola Tinubu in office.

Chukwudum noted that the only way to fast track the nation’s development is to move from the present export of raw materials and produce to packaging value-added raw materials and farm produce as well as finished goods/commodities for export.

“The federal government should lead in stopping the export of mineral resources and farm produce in their raw state, including crude oil.

“As a country, let us concentrate on processing mineral resources and farm produce here in Nigeria; then the finished products will be exported.

“This will attract investors, create jobs, increase productivity, reduce social vices and our economy will boom as well,” he said.

Chukwudum urged Tinubu to tackle the menace of insecurity, which had affected farming, food availability, travelling, transportation and was brewing hatred among Nigerians.

He called for decisive action against all forms of criminality in the country.

“SNPM supports the proposal for state and local governments policing systems to provide necessary police manpower to secure hinterlands of states in the country, where criminals operate at will,” he said.

The SNPM boss urged the Tinubu administration to strengthen the naira, therefore, increasing its worth and Nigerians’ purchasing power.

“Strengthening the naira will go a long way to reduce the hardship being experienced by Nigerians and create a more conducive and peaceful country,” he added.
