The Nigerian Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) from Enugu State, as the new Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, following the resignation of Uche Nnaji.
Dr. Udeh’s confirmation came after a thorough screening session before the Senate, where he responded to a series of questions on national innovation strategies, scientific advancement, and policy implementation. The Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on National Assembly (Senate) Matters introduced him to the lawmakers at 12:15 p.m.
President Tinubu had earlier forwarded Udeh’s nomination to the Senate on Tuesday, a move officially announced during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The President, in his letter, cited Section 147(2) of the amended 1999 Constitution as the legal basis for the appointment and urged the Senate to give the nominee urgent consideration.

His confirmation follows the resignation of Uche Nnaji, the former minister representing Enugu State in the Federal Executive Council, who stepped down last month amid controversies surrounding his academic and NYSC records.
After deliberations, the Senate Committee of the Whole unanimously confirmed Udeh’s nomination, paving the way for his swearing-in as the nation’s new Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology.
