A staff of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, Josephine Ajoke Akinfotire and her son, Destiny Olusegun, have been arraigned before an Akure Magistrates Court for allegedly attacking one of their neighbours, Mrs Fifunmi Giwa.
The defendants were brought before the court on Tuesday on a two-count allegation of assault and malicious damage.
The plaintiff’s counsel, Benjamin Salami, in suit number MAK/NC/138/2022, filed on behalf of the plaintiff, Mrs Giwa, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 19, 2022, between 6:00 and 7:00 pm at Ota-Esan Community in Oba-Ile, Akure.
Mr Salami alleged that the defendants assaulted the plaintiff in her apartment during an argument, adding that the defendants damaged a sewing machine head repairable at the cost of N10,000, a sewing machine leg valued at N40,000 and one Itel phone worth N7,000.

He added that they also damaged one dummy head valued at N6,000, one Sayona pressing iron worth N12,000 and a door handle repairable valued at N8,000, totalling N73,000 belonging to the plaintiff.
The plaintiff asked for the sum of N300,000 from the defendants as “general damages for assaulting his client and injuring her, and N70, 000 for the cost of this action”.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the accusation. The defendant’s counsel, Mr Jimoh Saliu asked the court for a date to enable him to prepare his witnesses for the trial. In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mayomi Olanipekun, adjourned the case till September 26, 2022, for a hearing.
