The member representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Jonathan Ajirioghene Ukodhiko, has called for greater employment and contracting opportunities for Isoko people in oil and gas companies operating in the area.
Ukodhiko made the call during a media chat with journalists while discussing his plans and priorities if he secures a second term in the House of Representatives.

According to Ukodhiko, a second term would provide an opportunity to consolidate on existing programmes and introduce further initiatives aimed at improving the lives of constituents through empowerment and employment.
“When we come back to our second term, we are going to consolidate on whatever that we have done. We will continue to improve on the life of our people by providing more empowerment for our people, providing more employment for our people, to create more millionaires and billionaires,” he said.
Ukodhiko said one area that would receive particular attention was the participation of Isoko people in the oil and gas industry, especially companies operating within Isoko land.
“One of the things that I’m going to do in my second term is to focus on most of the oil industry that are working in Isoko land. What percentage of jobs are they giving to our people? How many of our contractors are players in those oil and gas industries?” he asked.
Ukodhiko Seeks Greater Local Participation
The lawmaker maintained that communities from which crude oil is produced should also have access to employment and business opportunities within the industry, in line with the spirit of Nigeria’s local content framework.
“Because if you are producing oil in our land and you are not providing jobs for our people, that means there is something wrong. So we are going to also look into all that,” Ukodhiko said.

He added that efforts to improve the welfare and economic opportunities of his constituents would remain a continuous responsibility.
“It is work, work, work, and work, and we will continue to do that,” he said.
