The Progressive Students Movement (PSM), a Pan-African youth-led body, has applauded the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, for what it describes as a “remarkable breakthrough” in the fight against crime, following the successful extradition of Benjamin Nnayereugo, popularly known as Killaboi.
Killaboi, a fugitive wanted in connection with the brutal murder of 21-year-old Miss Augusta Onuwabhagbe, a first-class student of Lead City University, Ibadan, was extradited from Doha, Qatar, to Nigeria in the early hours of Saturday, April 19, 2025. His return marks a significant milestone in cross-border law enforcement cooperation and Nigeria’s resolve to bring high-profile criminals to justice.
In a statement released in Enugu, PSM Nigeria President, Ambassador Bestman Okereafor, hailed the Nigeria Police Force under IGP Egbetokun for what he called “a clear demonstration of professionalism and international collaboration at its peak.” He emphasized that Killaboi, who had been declared wanted since October 2023, had evaded arrest by fleeing the country—but the coordinated efforts of the Nigeria Police, the Federal Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, and Qatari authorities eventually led to his capture and return.
Okereafor described the extradition as a victory for justice and a turning point in Nigeria’s global image regarding law enforcement efficiency. “This success proves that no criminal can remain beyond the reach of justice, and it restores hope to families and victims seeking closure,” he said.
The PSM also commended the leadership of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Olaolu Adegbite, who heads INTERPOL NCB Abuja, praising his integrity, professionalism, and commitment to international security cooperation. According to Okereafor, AIG Adegbite’s strategic management has transformed INTERPOL’s operations, making it a cornerstone in Nigeria’s fight against transnational crime.
In the same vein, the student body celebrated the proactive work of the INTERPOL Annex in Lagos, led by Commissioner of Police Mr. Olubode Ojajuni. They cited his unit’s professionalism and strict anti-corruption stance as consistent with IGP Egbetokun’s broader police reform agenda.

Okereafor said the PSM believes that the extradition of Killaboi will serve as a strong deterrent to other criminal elements who think they can escape justice by crossing borders. He also called on law enforcement agencies to ramp up efforts to apprehend sponsors and perpetrators of violent attacks in Benue, Plateau, and other flashpoints across the country, stressing that such violence is often politically motivated to undermine the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The student leader further urged Nigerian citizens to continue supporting the Nigeria Police and its international partners, particularly in ongoing efforts to clamp down on cybercrime, Ponzi schemes, and other fraudulent activities that continue to affect millions of Nigerians.
“Credible leadership is now driving key police formations, and we’re optimistic about the future. With effective collaboration and public trust, Nigeria can rise above insecurity and emerge stronger,” he added.
PSM ended its statement with a rallying call for unity and patriotism, expressing confidence that under IGP Egbetokun’s leadership, the Nigeria Police Force is on the path to meaningful transformation and global credibility.
