The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University, Samuel Ovuete Aghalino, has officially assumed duty following an inaugural thanksgiving service held at the Chapel of Resurrection within the university campus in Asaba.
The event marked a formal transition in leadership as the institution begins a new phase under Aghalino, who becomes the second substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university.

At the thanksgiving service, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Asaba, Kingsley Obuh, described the appointment as divinely ordained, urging members of the university community to support the new leadership.
Represented by the Sub-Dean of the Diocese, the bishop delivered a message titled “Wisdom for Leadership and Lasting Impact,” drawn from the book of Proverbs, stressing that effective academic leadership must be anchored on wisdom, integrity, and spiritual guidance.

He noted that the emergence of a Vice-Chancellor goes beyond routine administration, describing it as a responsibility tied to shaping the future of both the institution and its students.
The cleric added that universities thrive not only through infrastructure and policies but through leadership rooted in values, warning that even the best strategies may fail without moral direction.
He expressed confidence in Aghalino’s leadership and called for unity within the university community to ensure sustained progress.
In his remarks, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Ben Oghojafor, expressed gratitude for a successful tenure, noting that despite early challenges as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor, the institution had recorded steady growth.
He revealed that the university secured international partnerships within five years and established a 25-year development plan aimed at ensuring long-term stability and expansion.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the Delta State Government, Kingsley Emu, described Aghalino as a respected scholar with global recognition, expressing confidence in his ability to elevate the institution.
In his acceptance remarks, Aghalino thanked Sheriff Oborevwori for the opportunity to serve, pledging to advance academic excellence and position the university for global relevance.
He emphasised the role of education in societal transformation, describing the university as a centre for innovation, creativity, and research development.
The new Vice-Chancellor outlined key priorities for his administration, including strengthening academic standards, promoting research output, advancing technology-driven education, and fostering inclusive growth.
He also highlighted the importance of collaboration, noting that partnerships within and outside Nigeria would be expanded to deliver impactful programmes.
Calling for unity, Aghalino encouraged open dialogue among staff and students, stressing that collective effort would be essential to achieving institutional goals.
The thanksgiving service attracted several dignitaries from government, academia, and traditional institutions, reflecting broad support for the new administration.
