The National Movement for Tinubu–Shettima 2027, a political support group backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, has called on the Federal Government to ensure that its ongoing economic reforms translate into tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians.

The group made the call in a statement signed by its National Chairman, National Coordinating Committee, Prof. Rufa’i Ahmed Alkali, to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on Thursday.

While congratulating Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and Nigerians at home and abroad, the group acknowledged that the administration’s reforms had brought “difficult adjustments and genuine hardship” to citizens.

It, however, said emerging improvements in economic stability, investment and fiscal resilience suggested that the government was laying foundations for economic recovery.

“The task now is to translate these reforms into relief, growth into jobs and recovery into broad-based prosperity for all Nigerians,” the statement said.

The group said investments in roads, railways, electricity, housing, agriculture and energy were strengthening the foundations of the economy.

It specifically cited the Compressed Natural Gas initiative, electricity reforms and efforts to attract investment into the oil and gas sector as measures that could reduce energy costs, stimulate industrial activity, create jobs and increase government revenue.

It urged the government to ensure that such investments produce measurable results, stressing that electricity must become more reliable, food more affordable and businesses better positioned to expand.

The group also identified food security as a critical component of national security, calling for sustained investment in agriculture, irrigation, mechanisation, storage, processing and rural infrastructure.

According to the organisation, stronger collaboration among farmers, industries and markets would enable agriculture to become not only a means of feeding Nigerians but also a major source of employment and wealth creation.

It further called for greater investment in young Nigerians through education, technical and vocational training, digital technology, entrepreneurship and access to finance.

The group said women, persons with disabilities, workers, farmers, small businesses and vulnerable households must also remain central to the country’s development agenda.

On security, the group commended members of the Armed Forces, police and other security agencies for defending the country, while urging the government to intensify the fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft and other forms of criminality.

It said improved intelligence, technology, effective policing and better welfare for security personnel were necessary to address the country’s security challenges.

As Nigeria moves towards the 2027 general elections, the group appealed for peaceful and issue-based political competition.

It urged political parties and candidates to avoid violence, intimidation, ethnic incitement and religious hatred, saying no political contest was worth compromising the country’s peace and unity.

The group reaffirmed its support for Tinubu’s administration and said continuity, stronger implementation and improved service delivery were necessary to consolidate the gains of the ongoing reforms.

“The challenges are real. The work remains unfinished. The next phase, however, must make the benefits of reform increasingly visible in the daily lives of ordinary Nigerians,” it said.

The group added: “At 66, Nigeria has every reason to believe in itself.

“We have survived.

“We are rebuilding.

“We are moving forward.

“Forward Nigeria!”

It wished Nigerians a happy 66th Independence Anniversary and called for continued national unity and progress.
