The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified security arrangements across Abuja and its environs ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, deploying additional personnel and activating inter-agency collaboration aimed at ensuring a peaceful and crime-free festive period.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, said the command has strengthened operational readiness through enhanced patrols, intelligence-led policing, and coordinated surveillance across identified security flashpoints in the territory.
According to the command, the security build-up is being implemented in collaboration with sister agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigerian Immigration Service and other stakeholders under a joint framework code-named ‘Operation Sweep FCT’.

As part of preventive measures, the command disclosed that Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units have been deployed to conduct routine sweeps of worship centres, recreational facilities and other venues expected to host large congregations during the Sallah celebrations.
It also noted that targeted raids are ongoing in identified black spots linked to drug abuse and other criminal activities, with emphasis on professionalism and adherence to operational guidelines.
In further preparations, Sanusi held a strategic virtual meeting with divisional police officers and divisional crime officers across the command, during which he charged them to maintain high levels of vigilance, discipline and professionalism before, during and after the festivities.
He stressed the need for increased visibility policing, prompt response to distress calls, and stronger engagement with local communities, warning that any form of misconduct by personnel would attract strict disciplinary action.
The commissioner of police reiterated that officers must remain courteous, properly attired and professional in their dealings with members of the public, noting that public trust remains central to effective policing.
He assured residents of the FCT of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging citizens to remain law-abiding and security conscious throughout the festive period.
