The Rivers State Police command has confirmed the death of a mother and her four children in a fire incident in Okrika Local Government Area of the state.

It was learnt that the incident happened in the early hours of Friday, September 18, 2026.
Unconfirmed sources attributed the fire to petroleum products that ignited fire from a spark and roasted the occupants of the house.
About a fortnight ago, no fewer than 37 persons lost their lives after inhaling pungent odour from a tampered pipeline at a jetty in the same Okrika axis.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Agabe Blessing, who confirmed the incident on Friday evening, said: “Yes, there was a fire incident in which a woman and her three children tragically lost their lives, while others sustained injuries.”
She said that property estimated at thousands of naira were also destroyed in the inferno, adding that investigation is ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the cause of the fire outbreak.
