The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a gun-running syndicate linked to the recovery of a Beretta pistol in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.

Key Highlights:

  • Delta Police arrested four suspects linked to a gun-running syndicate.
  • A Beretta pistol was recovered in Effurun after intelligence-led investigations.
  • Suspects were tracked and arrested across Bayelsa and Imo States.
  • Police say the group is linked to illegal firearm trafficking and a confraternity network.

Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, disclosed this during a press briefing on Monday in Asaba, saying the arrests followed intelligence-driven investigations into the unlawful possession of the firearm recovered at a transport park in Effurun on May 1, 2026.

The suspects were identified as Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Clifford Boleyelefa, Amadi Princewill and Amadi Felix Chibuike.

According to the police commissioner, police officers tracked and arrested the suspects in Bayelsa and Imo States through coordinated operations.

Oyeniyi said the first suspect, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, was arrested in Bayelsa State on May 4, alongside a friend and roommate whose phone he allegedly used to facilitate the purchase of the pistol.

During interrogation, Chukwuemeka reportedly confessed to purchasing the Beretta pistol from Amadi Princewill for N290,000 before reselling it to a suspect identified simply as Desmond, who is currently at large, for N380,000.

The police boss said investigations revealed that Desmond subsequently arranged for the pistol to be transported to Effurun and contacted Oghenemine Ogidi, now deceased, to collect it and forward it to Sapele.

Acting on the confession, police officers tracked and arrested Princewill in Imo State on May 15.

“Upon his arrest and interrogation, he stated that he bought the gun from one Amadi Felix for the sum of N200,000,” Oyeniyi said.

The commissioner added that Amadi Felix was subsequently arrested in Owerri, Imo State, on May 16.

He further disclosed that investigations indicated that the suspects are members of the Black Axe confraternity.

Oyeniyi said the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate, including Desmond.

The police commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating the proliferation of illegal firearms and dismantling criminal networks operating within and outside the state.
