ISAAC JOB, UYO

A banner erected at Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium, venue of the ongoing declaration by the Hon Minister, Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godwill Akpabio caused confusion at the venue of the event in Akwa Ibom State.

The banner has the inscription: “People’s Democratic Party, Akwa Ibom State Chapter in support of His Excellency, Chief Dr Godswill Akpabio for President in 2023”.

The development has indeed thrown members of the political class into confusion considering the fact that the leader of the party and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel is also contesting the Presidential Primaries on the platform of PDP.

Giving reasons for their action, a man who claimed to be a member of PDP at the venue told our correspondent that the action was taken because the Governor failed to consult the party in the state before embarking on such a significant contest.

He blamed Udom Emmanuel for not consulting the people at home before embarking on the presidential contest.

He said Charity begins at home and wondered why governor Emmanuel never talked to anybody in the state but only relied on claims that Berekete Radio family bought PDP Nomination Forms for him.

“Charity begins at home. how can our Governor be going around the country to consult for a presidential election without first of all informing Akwa Ibom people?” the source who craved anonymity queried.

The controversial flex banner caused a stir at the venue of Akpabio’s presidential declaration at Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium.
