The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party has suffered another blow following the resignation of Sunny Ndukwu, media adviser to the embattled National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
Ndukwu formally resigned his membership of the PDP in a letter dated January 4, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the party in Nguru Umuowa Ward 6, Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State. In the letter, he cited lack of cohesion, absence of clear direction, and irreconcilable differences as reasons for his decision.
He said the prevailing situation within the party no longer reflects the ideals and principles upon which the PDP was founded, noting that the current trajectory has made it impossible for him to continue as a member.
“I hereby formally resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect. I appreciate the party for the opportunity to serve in various capacities,” the letter stated. “However, the time has come for me to align with a credible political platform whose objectives are consistent with my personal beliefs.”
Until his resignation, Ndukwu served as Special Adviser on Communication to Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, the PDP National Secretary. He also played a prominent role in the party’s activities in Imo State, serving as Deputy Director of Media and Publicity for the PDP 2023 Governorship Campaign Council.

Before the 2023 election cycle, Senator Anyanwu appointed him Director of Media and Publicity of the Divine Mandate Movement, the political platform that supported the National Secretary’s political ambitions. In 2024, Ndukwu was appointed Secretary of the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area PDP Congress Committee, where he was instrumental in harmonising the congress list that produced the current LGA leadership and the eleven ward officers.
His exit is widely seen as a significant setback for Senator Anyanwu, particularly at the grassroots level in Ngor Okpala, where Ndukwu is known to command strong local support. Political observers believe his structure in the area may soon realign with another political party, further weakening the PDP’s footing.
Described by supporters as outspoken and deeply rooted at the grassroots, Ndukwu is yet to officially announce his next political destination. However, political watchers in the area suggest that his next move could come as a surprise, with expectations already building ahead of a possible realignment.
