The Community Liaison Officer (CLO) of the ongoing Otovwodo Flyover project in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr Ayo Emuobor, has attributed the rapid progress and uncommon speed recorded on the project to the strong commitment and leadership of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
Speaking during an interaction with journalists shortly after conducting newsmen round sections of the project, Emuobor said the governor’s dedication to timely project delivery, prompt release of funds and close supervision of contractors had greatly accelerated work at the construction site.
According to him, Governor Oborevwori’s determination to ensure the project is completed within schedule has distinguished the Otovwodo Flyover from many public infrastructure projects often plagued by delays.
“The speed of the project is because our working governor has given the contractor a timeframe to complete the project, and beyond that, he has made funds available,” he stated.
He noted that the peaceful relationship existing between the host community and contractors has also contributed significantly to the smooth execution of the project.
Emuobor explained that maintaining peace within the community throughout the construction period required continuous engagement with residents, youth groups, women leaders and traditional authorities.
“It has not been easy to manage this kind of big project without having some issues, but by the special grace of God, I am always on ground to engage with our people through continuous engagement and open communication with community leaders, youth and women groups,” he said.
He disclosed that the leadership of Ughelli Kingdom and community executives had remained supportive since the commencement of the project, helping to prevent misunderstandings capable of slowing down construction activities.
“We ensure that community concerns are listened to and addressed promptly before they escalate into conflicts. Regular meetings and sensitization programmes have also helped to build trust and understanding between the project management and the host community,” he added.
The CLO further identified transparency, local participation and collaboration with security agencies as additional factors responsible for the uninterrupted progress recorded at the site.
According to him, the prevailing peaceful atmosphere has enabled contractors and workers to operate without disruptions, thereby improving productivity and adherence to project timelines.
“When there is cooperation and understanding, work progresses faster. Timely decision-making, availability of resources and commitment from all parties involved have helped to keep the project moving according to schedule,” he explained.
Describing the Otovwodo Flyover as a long-overdue intervention, Emuobor said the project would permanently address the persistent traffic congestion experienced daily along the strategic East-West Road corridor.
He observed that motorists and businesses had suffered for years due to gridlock at the busy Otovwodo Junction, which serves as a major route linking commuters to Port Harcourt, Bayelsa, Asaba and other parts of the country.

“As you all know, Otovwodo Junction has long needed this flyover, and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori swung into action immediately after assuming office by awarding the contract,” he said.
He expressed optimism that upon completion, the flyover would improve transportation, stimulate economic activities, attract investors and create employment opportunities for residents within the area.
The CLO also commended Governor Oborevwori for sustained infrastructural development across Delta State while appealing for further government intervention on the Otovwodo-Uduophori-Oviri-Ogor bypass road linking the East-West Road to Port Harcourt.
