  • Katsina Spikers came from behind to defeat Adamawa Spikers 3-1.

  • The Nigeria Volleyball Federation league in Abuja is entering a crucial stage as teams compete for promotion and qualification.

At the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Package B, Abuja, on Tuesday, debutants NY Spikers continued their impressive campaign in the women’s Division One category with a dominant straight-set victory over Caliphate Spikers.

NY Spikers overwhelmed their opponents 3-0, taking the sets 25-11, 25-16, and 25-17 in a one-sided encounter that underlined their growing credentials as contenders in the competition.

The result adds to an encouraging run for the team, which has attracted attention since making its debut in the league.

Earlier in the championship, NY Spikers recorded a hard-fought five-set victory over Queen Aminat Spikers, a performance their coach described as evidence of the team’s resilience and fighting spirit.

In another women’s Division One fixture, Plateau Queens produced an equally commanding display, defeating ACE Spikers 3-0.

Plateau Queens controlled proceedings from start to finish, claiming the match with convincing set scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-13 to strengthen their position in the standings.

The men’s Division One category also delivered exciting action as Katsina Spikers came from behind to defeat Adamawa Spikers 3-1.

After narrowly losing the opening set 23-25, Katsina responded strongly to win the next three sets 25-14, 25-18, and 25-18, securing a valuable victory in their push for advancement.

Another thrilling men’s encounter saw Light Spikers edge past NIS Spikers 3-1.

Light Spikers claimed the first three sets 25-22, 25-18, and 25-16 before the NIS mounted a late challenge, taking the fourth set 25-23.

However, the effort was not enough to prevent Light Spikers from sealing the match.

Meanwhile, attention now shifts to another round of crucial fixtures scheduled at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

In the men’s category, Rhino Spikers will face Adamawa Spikers, while NIS Spikers take on the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). Katsina Spikers are also set to battle Sword Spikers in what promises to be a keenly contested encounter.

The women’s fixtures will see in-form NY Spikers return to action against NIS, with both teams aiming to strengthen their positions as the race for qualification intensifies.

The 2026 National Division One and Two League, organised by the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, began on May 23 and runs through early June in Abuja.

The championship brings together clubs, military teams, paramilitary organisations and sports institutions from across the country as part of efforts to develop grassroots volleyball and identify emerging talents for higher-level competitions.

With several matches still to be played, competition remains fierce in both the men’s and women’s divisions as teams continue their quest for promotion, recognition and national honours.
