Speaking with journalists at the ongoing 2026 Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League Phase One, held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Indoor Hall, Package B, Abuja, the Second Vice President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Adamu Tanimu, congratulated Adeniyi, describing him as a visionary administrator whose impact extends far beyond customs administration into Nigeria’s sporting ecosystem.
Tanimu described Adeniyi as a “double-function workaholic,” noting that he has successfully combined the enormous responsibility of leading the Nigeria Customs Service with an unwavering commitment to the growth of volleyball.
“He is not only transforming the Nigeria Customs Service but has also become one of the strongest pillars supporting volleyball in Nigeria,” he said.
According to Tanimu, the Nigeria Customs Service has emerged as one of the country’s foremost promoters of volleyball under Adeniyi’s leadership through sustained investment in athletes, sponsorship of major competitions and the successful organisation of the Comptroller-General of Customs Volleyball Premier League.
He added that the administration has created new opportunities for young Nigerians to pursue careers in sports while contributing to youth empowerment, employment generation and national economic growth.
The NVBF official described the tenure extension as welcome news for the entire volleyball community, expressing confidence that Adeniyi’s continued leadership would usher in even greater progress for the sport.
“This is something that makes us very happy. It is like seeing someone who has been feeding you being elevated—you know that even more good things are coming,” Tanimu said.
He noted that Adeniyi’s support extends beyond volleyball, stressing that the Customs Comptroller-General has consistently championed the development of several sports across the country while using sports as a platform for youth engagement, national unity and social development.
“It is a good thing not only for the Nigeria Customs Service but for the whole country in terms of sports sponsorship. The Comptroller-General has been doing extremely well in supporting sporting activities in Nigeria,” he added.
Tanimu also highlighted the economic benefits of competitions organised by the Nigeria Customs Service, saying they generate business opportunities for vendors, service providers and host communities.
He explained that tournaments such as the ongoing CGC Volleyball Premier League stimulate commercial activities around competition venues, increase government revenue and empower women and young entrepreneurs.
“When you look at this competition alone, you can see the number of economic activities that have sprung up within just two weeks. Sports have economic value not only to individuals but also to government through revenue generation and job creation,” he said.
The federation maintained that Adeniyi’s sports-friendly leadership has expanded grassroots participation, raised the standard of competitions and strengthened collaboration between public institutions and private stakeholders in sports development.
According to the NVBF, the sustained backing of the Nigeria Customs Service has helped position Nigeria’s volleyball league among the most competitive on the African continent while providing athletes with platforms to compete successfully at both national and international levels.
Expressing optimism about the future, the federation said Adeniyi’s tenure extension would consolidate the achievements already recorded and further strengthen Nigeria’s ambition of becoming a dominant force in African volleyball.
The NVBF also wished the Comptroller-General continued good health, wisdom and success as he continues to drive reforms within the Nigeria Customs Service while advancing the growth of sports across Nigeria.
