The Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Taraba State chapter, has commended the federal government and security agencies for the successful rescue of teachers and students recently abducted in Oyo state, describing the operation as a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to protecting lives, particularly within the education sector.
In a statement issued to journalists on Friday in Jalingo, by the NUT state Chairman, Nathan Solomon, the union praised President Bola Tinubu for the successful operation, saying it had renewed confidence among educators, parents, and school communities that the safety of schools remains a priority for the government.
“The rescue has renewed confidence among educators, parents, and school communities that the safety of schools remains a priority for the government,” the statement read.
While celebrating the development, the union appealed to the federal government and security agencies to sustain efforts to secure the release of other Nigerians still in captivity, expressing hope that they would soon be reunited with their families.
The NUT also lauded the military and other security agencies for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication to protecting lives and property.
It urged Nigerians to continue supporting and appreciating the sacrifices made by security personnel in safeguarding the nation.
The union further offered prayers for the country’s security operatives, asking God to grant them wisdom, courage, strength, and success in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.
The teachers’ union also commended Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, for implementing proactive security measures that have helped maintain a safe and conducive learning environment across schools in the state
It, however, urged the state government not to relent in its efforts, but to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve security infrastructure in schools, and sustain other preventive measures to protect educational institutions from emerging security threats.
“While several parts of the country have witnessed repeated attacks on educational institutions, Taraba State has continued to enjoy relative peace due to the governor’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and schools,” the union stated.

It described the intervention as a significant boost to the quality of teaching and learning and a reflection of the administration’s commitment to revitalising education.
The union appealed to the governor to sustain the momentum by increasing investment in educational infrastructure, improving teachers’ welfare, expanding capacity-building programmes, recruiting qualified teachers where necessary, and providing additional instructional materials to enhance learning outcomes
