NSSF Launches National Shooting Sports Platform
The new platform was unveiled during the Army War College Nigeria Course 10/2026 Shooting Competition in Abuja.
The event brought together military and paramilitary personnel, sports journalists, shooting sport associations and other stakeholders.
According to the NSSF, the platform is intended to provide a structured system for identifying, registering and developing shooting sport enthusiasts and professionals across the country.
NDC Commandant Highlights Importance of Shooting Sports
Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the event, the Commandant of the National Defence College, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, said the initiative would help participants improve their awareness, precision and proficiency in shooting.
Ahmed described shooting as an important traditional military sport, particularly in the face of security challenges confronting Nigeria.
He urged participants to maintain regular practice beyond the competition, stressing that consistent training is essential for improving accuracy and developing proficiency.
NSSF, Military Strengthen Partnership
The NDC Commandant also welcomed the partnership between the NSSF and the military, describing it as a viable area of cooperation.
He noted that the military had previously collaborated with sporting federations in disciplines such as volleyball, basketball and football.
However, he said shooting provided another important avenue for collaboration because of the NSSF’s expertise and resources in the sport.
Army War College Competition Tests Shooting Skills
NSSF officials said the competition was organised as a novelty shooting match for participants of the Army War College course.
The event provided participants with an opportunity to demonstrate their shooting abilities while also maintaining physical and mental fitness.
The federation said competitions of this nature could contribute to the development of discipline, concentration, precision and technical proficiency among participants.
NISSP to Support Responsible Firearm Management
Beyond sporting development, the NSSF said the new platform would support responsible firearm management and accountability.
According to the federation, NISSP will facilitate the creation of a database of legitimate shooting sport participants while ensuring that firearm owners are appropriately registered and vetted in accordance with existing laws.
The federation said the system would help establish a more structured framework for individuals participating in legitimate shooting sports.
NSSF Partners Police on Safety and Compliance
The NSSF said it is working with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure compliance with relevant laws and safety requirements.
The Inspector-General of Police serves as the Grand Patron of the NSSF, according to the federation.
The collaboration is expected to support proper registration, vetting and adherence to regulations governing shooting sports and firearm ownership.
