The Ebonyi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismantled a hideout used by a criminal syndicate terrorising communities along the Ebonyi-Benue border, recovering an AK-47 rifle and other weapons.
Key Highlights
- NSCDC operatives raided a gang hideout in Izzi Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.
- The suspects fled into the bush as operatives closed in.
- Recovered items include an AK-47, a pump-action shotgun, a locally made pistol, ammunition and five combat knives.
- Francis Nnadi warned criminals to leave Ebonyi ahead of the general elections.
- A manhunt is under way for the fleeing gang members.
The raid, which took out a key base for hoodlums and cultists around Izzi Local Government Area, followed weeks of intelligence gathering and tracking by operatives.
Briefing journalists on the operation on Thursday in Abakaliki, Francis Nnadi said it was carried out by a joint team of the command’s Intelligence and Investigation Department and the Commandant’s Special Squad.
Weapons Recovered
Although the suspects fled into surrounding bush paths as operatives closed in, a sweep of the enclave uncovered arms and dangerous items.
These included one AK-47 assault rifle, one double-loaded magazine, four rounds of live ammunition, one locally made pistol, one pump-action shotgun, five tactical combat knives and assorted charms.

Warning Ahead Of Elections
Warning criminal networks seeking to exploit the border terrain, Nnadi declared Ebonyi State a no-go zone, particularly as political activities intensify.
“I want to warn criminal elements ahead of the general elections to flee Ebonyi State,” Nnadi declared.
“The command, in conjunction with sister security agencies, is fully prepared to rid the state of all forms of crime and criminality.
“Residents of our border communities and the entire state can rest assured of robust, non-stop security coverage before, during, and after the elections.”
Nnadi urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible intelligence to the NSCDC and other security agencies.
A manhunt is under way across nearby forests and neighbouring communities to track down the fleeing suspects.
