The Special Assistant to the President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) on Media, Dare Kuti, has clarified that the federation’s President, Musa Nimrod, has no interest in contesting for the presidency of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).
Kuti made the clarification via a press statement on Tuesday, in response to comments by former Gombe Athletics Association official, Gara Gombe, who had called on Nimrod to contest for the NOC presidency.
In the statement, Kuti said Nimrod has no intention of seeking the position and urged that the matter be put to rest.
“My attention has been drawn to an interview credited to Gara Gombe, where he is positioning the president of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation for the NOC presidency. Let it be on record that Nimrod has no intention of running,” Kuti said.
He also praised the contributions of the NOC President, Habu Gumel to Nigerian sports, particularly volleyball, describing him as a major pillar of the sport.

According to Kuti, Gumel played a significant role in Nimrod’s emergence as president of the CAVB Beach Volleyball Commission.
He further credited Gumel with supporting the Nigeria Volleyball Premier League in securing a sponsorship deal with the Nigeria Customs Service, as well as helping the federation secure the services of its current foreign technical adviser, Ryan Masajedi.
“Whenever the Nigeria Volleyball Federation runs into a visa crisis, the President of the NOC always comes to our rescue,” Kuti added.
Kuti, who is also a member of the CAVB Zone 3 Media Committee, advised Gombe to concentrate on his grassroots sports development programmes and continue discovering talents for Gombe State.
He specifically commended Gombe’s previous efforts at the National Youth Games and National Sports Festival, urging him to sustain those initiatives.
The clarification effectively rules out Nimrod’s reported interest in the NOC presidency, while reaffirming the NVBF’s appreciation of Gumel’s contributions to Nigerian volleyball and sports development.
