Nigeria’s U17 female team also called the Flamingos have defeated Ethiopia in the first leg of the final round of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers to India.

Flamingos, who are yet to conceive a goal in the qualifiers, dismantling every stumbling block as they surge towards clinching the ticket to India, took a giant step further into the Asia continent by winning Ethiopia 1-0 in Abebe Bekila Stadium
As the duel kicked off, Nigeria U17 started on a good note in the early minutes of the game as Opeyemi Ajakaye’s 5th-minute weak attempt was resisted by the Ethiopians.

The Flamingos kept on the push to break the deadlock and sustain it till the 36thminute when Ajakaye’s strike finally saw the back of the Ethiopians’ net. Thanks to Taiwo Afolabi’s through pass.
However, the home team after the first half closed tightened their defence a bit and tried to curtail the firepower of the Super Eagles.

In the course of the match, both teams made some changes to dictate the scoreline but were unable to effect it until it ended 1-0 in favour of Nigeria.
It is noteworthy that Ajakaye’s only goal in the match increases her tally in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers to six.

Consequently, Nigeria will on Saturday, June 4, 2022, host the Ethiopians in the deciding and second leg clash for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifying ticket at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Furthermore, the winner on aggregate from the double ties will qualify as one of Africa’s three representatives at this year’s FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup finals in India.
