The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized a large consignment of illicit drugs in Kano, including 75,000 capsules of pregabalin and 556 bottles of codeine syrup, ahead of the forthcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
Operatives of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command also recovered quantities of loose cannabis sativa during an intelligence-led operation in the Badawa area of the state.
Spokesperson for the command, Sadiq Maigatari, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
Maigatari said the operation was carried out under the leadership of the Commander of Narcotics in charge of the Kano Strategic Command, D. Y. Lawal, adding that it disrupted a major drug supply intended for circulation during the festive period.

He said although the prime suspect connected to the consignment had yet to be arrested, he was currently under surveillance as efforts were ongoing to apprehend him.
Speaking on the development, Lawal described the seizure as a major blow to the cartel behind the drugs and a step towards protecting residents of the state from the dangers associated with illicit substances.
He noted that the command would continue to intensify its operations, warning individuals involved in drug trafficking and related activities to desist.
Lawal stressed that the agency would pursue offenders and ensure they face the full weight of the law.
He, however, commended members of the public for their continued cooperation and urged residents to provide credible information to the agency to support its fight against drug trafficking.
