The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBF) has unveiled a 12-man D’Tigers squad for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers, marking the first competitive assignment for new head coach David Fizdale.
Nigeria will begin its qualifying campaign in Angola, where the team is scheduled to face Tunisia, Guinea and Rwanda as it seeks to boost its chances of securing a place at the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The squad blends experienced internationals with players featuring in top leagues across Europe, North America and Africa, reflecting the federation’s determination to return Nigeria to the global basketball stage.
Former NBA forward Chimezie Metu headlines the roster, bringing leadership and experience to the side.
He is joined by seasoned guards Stan Okoye, Ike Iroegbu and UC Iroegbu, while Caleb Agada returns after emerging as one of D’Tigers’ most reliable performers in recent years.

Also named in the squad are Daniel Utomi, Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu, Christian Mekowulu, Martins Igbanu, Wesley Iwundu, Michael Eric and Paul Dibal, giving the coaching staff a balanced roster with depth in defence, perimeter shooting and inside play.
Fizdale will be assisted by an experienced coaching crew comprising David Vanterpool, Ekpe Udoh, Caesar Adim and Deji Akindele as Nigeria begins a new era under one of the strongest technical teams assembled for the national side.
D’Tigers are scheduled to play Tunisia on July 2, Guinea on July 3 and Rwanda on July 5 in Angola.
Nigeria will be aiming for a strong start under Fizdale as the team looks to re-establish itself among Africa’s basketball elite.
With a blend of experienced players, quality coaching and renewed ambition, D’Tigers will hope to make an early statement in the race for qualification to the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
