The discovery was made during a follow-up operation conducted on September 29 to prevent the re-establishment of illegal oil bunkering activities in the area.
The navy disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, signed by its Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho.

According to the statement, the operation uncovered 16 concealed dugout pits, four of which contained approximately 40,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil, while another three contained about 45,000 litres suspected to be awaiting processing.
Troops also recovered hoses allegedly used to transport crude oil during the operation.
The latest operation came barely a week after the Navy deactivated a major illegal refining camp in the same area on September 22.
The navy said the successive operations were aimed at preventing criminal operators from rebuilding illegal oil-processing facilities previously dismantled by security forces.
“The successive interventions indicate that attempts to regenerate illicit oil-processing capacity are meeting continued naval pressure, limiting criminal operators’ ability to restore previously disrupted activities,” the statement said.
The navy added that the recovered suspected stolen crude oil and other items found during the operation were handled in accordance with established procedures.
