The naira to dollar exchange rate today has sparked fresh concern among Nigerians as the local currency maintained relative stability at the official market but continues to trade significantly higher on the parallel market.

On Thursday, September 10, 2026, the naira was quoted at ₦1,322.72 per dollar at the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), unchanged from the rate recorded on Wednesday, September 9.

Meanwhile, the parallel market recorded a dollar selling rate of about ₦1,390, with dealers reportedly buying the greenback for around ₦1,380.

This means Nigerians buying dollars at the parallel-market selling rate are paying about ₦67.28 more for every dollar compared with the official NFEM rate on Thursday.

The latest naira to dollar exchange rate today, therefore shows a notable gap between the official and parallel markets despite the relative stability recorded at the official window.

The development is particularly significant for Nigerians who need dollars for international travel, school fees, business transactions and other foreign-exchange needs, as the cost can vary considerably depending on where the currency is obtained.

The official rate had remained at ₦1,322.72 on September 9 before retaining the same level on September 10.

Earlier, on September 8, 2026, data attributed to the Central Bank of Nigeria showed the naira trading around ₦1,320 per dollar at the official market.

The figures indicate that the naira has remained relatively stable at the official window over the past few days, even as the parallel market continues to command a premium.

The contrasting rates have renewed attention on the persistent difference between Nigeria’s official foreign-exchange market and street trading.

Factors such as dollar availability, demand, trading volumes and actions by the Central Bank of Nigeria can influence exchange rates and cause prices to change during the day.

Consequently, the ₦1,390 parallel-market rate should not be regarded as a uniform rate across all locations or dealers. Actual prices may differ depending on the dealer, location, transaction volume and availability of dollars.

For Nigerians monitoring the naira to dollar exchange rate today, the key development is the continued stability of the official NFEM rate at ₦1,322.72, compared with the much higher ₦1,390 parallel-market selling rate.

Attention will now turn to whether the naira can maintain its stability at the official window or whether changes in dollar demand and supply will widen or narrow the gap between the two markets.
