The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has clarified lifting the ban on sachet alcohol timeline across the country.
Mr. Kenneth Azikiwe, who leads the agency’s office in the Federal Capital Territory, explained to newsmen that while the ban has been temporarily lifted, this situation will only last until December 31, 2025.
He made it clear that the lifting of the ban is not permanent and urged everyone to ignore any misleading information stating that the ban has been permanently removed.
“There is a temporary lifting of the ban on sachet alcohol, but it will be reviewed by December 31, 2025,” Azikiwe said.
“After this date, the ban will be fully enforced again.”

The temporary lift allows manufacturers and regulators to work together on a better plan for handling sachet alcohol in the future.
Azikiwe also mentioned that NAFDAC has been working hard to educate the public and has reached out to people in every state.
They have informed distributors that alcohol should not be sold to anyone under the age of 18, which is also marked on the product labels.
Azikiwe thanked the Distillers and Beverages Association of Nigeria for their support in raising awareness.
He reassured everyone that NAFDAC is committed to managing alcohol consumption and emphasised that sachet alcohol products containing less than 200 milliliters will be phased out completely after December 2025.
