MTN Confirms Network Disruption in Five Locations
MTN Nigeria announced the disruption in a post on its official X account on Thursday, October 8, 2026, following reports from subscribers experiencing difficulties using its services.
The telecommunications company stated that the network challenges were affecting some parts of the five locations and warned that its services might be temporarily unavailable.
“Network Outage Alert! We’re experiencing network challenges in some parts of Oyo, Lagos, Rivers, FCT and Delta States and our services may be temporarily unavailable as a result,” the company said.
MTN added that its technical team was working to restore connectivity as quickly as possible and thanked customers for their patience.
In a follow-up message, the operator apologised to affected subscribers and reiterated that its engineers were working to resolve the disruption.
MTN FibreX Network Also Experiences Downtime
The outage appears to extend beyond mobile telecommunications services, with MTN also confirming a disruption affecting its fixed broadband product, FibreX.
Responding to customer complaints on X, the company said it was experiencing a general service downtime affecting the FibreX network and that its support team was treating the matter urgently.
However, MTN has not confirmed whether the FibreX disruption and the wider network outage affecting the five locations share the same cause.
The company has also not disclosed the technical reason for the disruption, the number of subscribers affected or when normal services are expected to resume.
MTN’s notice refers specifically to “some parts” of the affected locations, meaning the announcement does not establish that the entire network across the five locations is down.

Will MTN Subscribers Receive Compensation?
The latest disruption comes days after MTN began providing airtime compensation to eligible subscribers over poor network quality recorded between February and April 2026.
The company previously clarified that the compensation relates to service-quality failures recorded during that period and is separate from issues involving data depletion.
It has not announced whether customers affected by the current outage will qualify for additional compensation.
The development may raise fresh concerns among subscribers who depend on MTN for business communications, online transactions, remote work and everyday connectivity.
No Restoration Timeline Announced
For now, MTN subscribers in affected parts of Lagos, Oyo, Rivers, Delta and the FCT may continue to experience intermittent or unavailable services until the company’s engineers complete restoration work.
The operator has not provided a specific timeline for the full resumption of mobile and FibreX services.
Customers are advised to monitor MTN’s official communication channels for further updates on the outage and the restoration of normal network operations.
