Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, gave the assurance in a statement issued on Friday, by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folashade, and published on the ministry’s X handle.

Alausa said the safety and well-being of students and staff remain a priority as the federal government prepares for the reopening of the colleges.

“The safety and wellbeing of students and staff remain central to the federal government’s commitment to providing a secure and conducive environment for teaching and learning,” the minister said.

He disclosed that relevant security agencies had been notified of the resumption arrangements and were maintaining heightened vigilance around the Unity Colleges and their surrounding communities.

According to him, the coordinated security measures are intended to protect students, staff and members of the school communities as academic activities resume nationwide.

The minister urged parents and guardians to remain calm and depend on information from official government channels as they make arrangements for their children’s return to school on Monday.

He also directed the management of the colleges to maintain close communication with security agencies and other relevant authorities throughout the resumption process.

Alausa called on students, teachers, parents, school administrators and other stakeholders to contribute to maintaining a peaceful and secure learning environment.

He stressed that protecting students and ensuring their wellbeing was a collective responsibility.

The ministry said it would continue to monitor developments and work with relevant authorities to address any emerging concerns and ensure the smooth resumption of academic activities in the colleges.

It reaffirmed its commitment to providing Nigerian children with access to quality education in a safe and conducive environment.

The ministry said the efforts were consistent with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which identifies education and human capital development as key components of Nigeria’s long-term growth and national development.

With the resumption date unchanged, the ministry reiterated that students, parents, teachers and school authorities should complete preparations for the commencement of the new academic session on Monday.
