The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute has announced the dress code for the 2025 Met Gala, which will focus on menswear under the theme “Tailored for You.” This theme aligns with the institute’s upcoming exhibit, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” and aims to explore the cultural and historical aspects of the Black dandy—an elegant, stylish Black man whose fashion combines historical sophistication with modern flair.
The exhibit draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s book, “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity,” and seeks to redefine conventional notions of dandyism while celebrating the evolution of Black menswear.
The Met Gala will be held on May 5, 2025, followed by the public opening of the “Superfine” exhibit from May 6 to October 26.

Vogue has characterized the dress code as intentionally designed to invite creative interpretation, with some fashion houses expected to adhere closely to the theme while others may use it as a starting point.
LeBron James will serve as the honorary co-chair for the gala, alongside co-chairs Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, and Lewis Hamilton. Anna Wintour, Vogue’s longtime editor, will also return as a co-chair.
The host committee will comprise notable figures from the Black community, including Andre 3000, Grace Wales Bonner, Simone Biles, Doechii, and Ayo Edebiri, all contributing to the celebration of fashion and cultural influence that the Met Gala represents.
