German champions Bayern Munich have secured the services of Stade Rennes’ striker, Mathys Tel on a five-year deal to keep him at Allianz Arena until 2027.
Having lost star striker Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona this summer immediately after signing CAF player of the year Sadio Mane from Liverpool, Bavarians are on a campaign to bring in fresh additions to the club.
According to the report on Tuesday, the 17-year-old who captained France U17 national team in February 2022 in his debut, was signed circa 30 million euro to become the fifth signing this summer for Bayern Munich
In a statement by Hasan Salihamidzic, the club’s board member on sport, he described Tel as a talented player and divulged that the Frenchman has been under the club’s watchlist.
Salihamidzic stated that several clubs were in a race to sign Tel but Bayern Munich were able to convince the striker who grew through the youth ranks of Stade Rennes to feature 7 times last season in Ligue 1.
“Mathys Tel is one of the biggest talents in Europe, a very quick, technically strong and versatile striker,” Hasan Salihamidzic, said.
“We’ve been watching him for a long time, and we were able to convince him to take his next important steps in Munich with us now,” he added.

He continued: “The development of such an exceptional young player is an exciting project for us all. Of course, Mathys needs time, he needs minutes on the pitch and rhythm.
“We are all convinced he has a great career in front of him and that he will help our team,” Salihamidzic.
Before the official announcement, Tel, on Sunday, had said he was on his way to join one of the best clubs in Europe, commending Salihamidzic for a fruitful discussion.
“FC Bayern are one of the best teams in the world. I’m very much looking forward to this great challenge, and I will give my all for this club,” he said.
“I’ve been very impressed with the discussions with Hasan Salihamidzic and the FC Bayern management, and I quickly realised I definitely wanted to come to Munich,” Tel expressed.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has cautioned fans not to expect much from the young, talented player who can play in different positions.
Nagelsmann stressed that the player, who he described as possessing the attribute of being quick in runs and strong defensively, is not a replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
“He is a very young talented player, he can play many positions, centre forward, wing forward.
“He is very quick, strong, with his whole body, good at defending the ball also good at deep runs.
“I hope he will be comfortable with the group as soon as possible. He may score some goals.
“He is not a one-on-one for Lewy,” he clarified.
Nagelsmann believes the Frenchman has all it takes to succeed and become one of the best strikers in the world.
