Manchester United FC has confirmed that Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood in custody over alleged rape, assault would not be involved in the team’s training sections and games until the circumstances surrounding an audio file and images released on social media by a lady alleging being assaulted is unravelled.
The club in a statement on Sunday, said that despite the ongoing investigations by Greater Manchester Police, it has launched an independent investigation to ascertain the clear picture of the incident.
United said, “Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”
Prior to the above statement from Old Trafford, the club had earlier stated that they do not condone any form of violence and will take decisive actions against any of its players found culpable.
“We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media.
“We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established. Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind,” United said.
Meanwhile, the Greater Manchester Police have disclosed that in furtherance to the investigation on the image and audio file posted by a lady on social media who claimed to have been assaulted, a man in his 20s has been arrested in connection to the crime and interrogations are ongoing.

The statement by Greater Manchester Police reads: “Greater Manchester Police were made aware earlier on Sunday of an online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.
“An investigation was launched and following enquiries, we can confirm that a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. He remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing,” the police added.
As a result of these allegations of rape and assault, the top stars in Old Trafford are ostensibly unfollowing Mason Greenwood on social media. Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba, and David de Gea are among the top United high-profiled players that have kept their distance from Mason Greenwood on Instagram.
Greenwood has been involved in certain disciplinary issues in the club and the English national team.
