Manchester City have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign England midfielder Elliot Anderson in a club-record deal worth £116 million, with the 23-year-old now set to undergo a medical before completing his move to the Etihad Stadium.
City sources said the transfer fee is a straight £116 million with no add-ons, although other reports suggest the overall package could rise to £130 million, which would surpass the £125 million Liverpool paid Newcastle United for striker Alexander Isak and set a new British transfer record.
Forest accepted City’s third offer after rejecting two previous bids, having held out for a higher valuation of the midfielder.
Personal terms are not expected to present any obstacle, with both parties reportedly confident of completing the transfer.
Anderson is currently with the England squad at the FIFA World Cup and has said he is fully focused on international duty despite speculation surrounding his future.
“It’s pretty easy really. I’m just focusing on the present. I’m blocking it all out,” Anderson said earlier this week.
“I’ve got a plan and it’s to perform for England. I’m putting myself in the best position to cross the line and do that.”
The midfielder joined Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United in 2024 in a £35 million move and has since made 88 appearances, scoring four goals.

He played a key role in Forest’s seventh-place Premier League finish in the 2024–25 season before helping the club reach the UEFA Europa League semi-finals the following campaign.
A product of Newcastle’s academy, Anderson made 55 senior appearances for his boyhood club before being sold to Forest amid the Magpies’ efforts to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
During the 2025–26 Premier League season, Anderson established himself as one of the division’s standout midfielders, leading the league in touches, possession recoveries, duels won and fouls won, further enhancing his reputation as one of England’s brightest young talents.
