Roma appeared firmly in control after taking a 2-0 first-half lead through Matías Soulé and Donyell Malen, leaving United facing another disappointing night in front of their home supporters.

Roma Race Into Early Lead

Soulé opened the scoring in the 11th minute, finishing a move assisted by Rodrigo Mora, before Malen doubled Roma’s advantage from the penalty spot six minutes later.

The goals increased the pressure on United head coach Michael Carrick, as frustrated supporters expressed their displeasure with the club’s ownership through protests inside Old Trafford.

United’s problems worsened when midfielder Carlos Baleba suffered a hamstring injury and was replaced by Youri Tielemans in the 50th minute.

Fernandes, Cunha Inspire Comeback

However, the hosts responded with renewed determination after the break, gradually turning the contest around.

Captain Bruno Fernandes reduced the deficit in the 58th minute, converting a penalty after the initial attempt had to be retaken following an infringement by a Roma player entering the penalty area.

United continued to push for an equaliser, with Bryan Mbeumo coming agonisingly close when his effort struck both posts.

Their persistence eventually paid off in the 83rd minute when Matheus Cunha capitalised on an error by Leonardo Balerdi to bring United level.

Cunha then completed the turnaround three minutes later, firing home from a tight angle after an assist from substitute Shea Lacey to give the hosts a 3-2 advantage.
