The LAWMA Academy has successfully concluded its 2024 summer school, a transformative four-week program aimed at equipping young minds with essential waste management and recycling skills. Held at LAWMA’s headquarters in Ijora-Olopa, the program attracted enthusiastic participation from pupils across various schools in Lagos State.
In a statement delivered by Mr. Kunle Adebiyi, Executive Director of Finance, on behalf of the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the academy’s commitment to grooming the next generation of eco-warriors was applauded.
“I am thrilled with your performance during this training. I urge you to go out there and share what you have learned with others,” Adebiyi stated, highlighting the crucial role these young ambassadors will play in promoting sustainable waste management practices across Lagos.

The summer school’s curriculum was both comprehensive and engaging, covering critical topics such as waste segregation, recycling techniques, and the environmental impact of proper waste disposal. Pupils participated in hands-on activities that not only solidified their understanding of these concepts but also empowered them to implement sustainable practices within their communities.
Head of LAWMA Academy, Mrs. Bola Adewumi, emphasized the long-term impact of the program. “You have been given the tools to make a difference. Use this knowledge to lead your peers and promote sustainable living in your communities,” she encouraged the young graduates.
The event showcased innovative projects by the pupils and the August LAWMA Academy interns, collectively known as the Sustainable Solution Squad (SSS). Their creative solutions to waste management challenges demonstrated their readiness to take on leadership roles in environmental stewardship.
Outstanding students from both the primary and secondary categories were honored with awards, further motivating them to continue their efforts in waste management and sustainability.
