
Chief of Staff to Nigeria President, Muhammadu Buhari, Prof. Ibrahim Agboola Gambari has said that peace, respect for human rights, and free and fair elections are the keys to developing any nation.
Prof. Gambari stated this in a lecture he delivered titled: “Contemporary Issues in Education and Development in Nigeria,” as part of activities marking the 30th anniversary/14th convocation of Delta State University, Abraka.
He said that there could be no development without peace and there would not be durable development without sustainable peace.
He said that peace could be attained by building a society of all inclusiveness adding that what Africa needed were strong leaders and strong institutions where youths are trained in order to curb crime, youth restiveness and other social vices

Commenting on the insecurity situation in the country, Prof Gambari said, “the Islamic Sect, Boko Haram are in 17 Local Government Areas in the Northern part of Nigeria but they are now a spent force, hence they are targeting soft spots. This is because our people are not security conscious.”
He admonished Nigerians that, “Overcoming the security challenges in the country must be the business of the whole nation. Security should be everybody business from the Federal Government level to State and Local Government level.
Prof. Gambari stated that, the only alternative to democracy was more democracy and that politics was far too important to be left for politicians alone.
He noted that, education itself was not a guarantee for success, stressing that there was need for Nigerians to embrace the mindset of continuous learning and reading.
He applauded the management and students of the University for their contributions to the high standard of education in the Institution.
