Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf has been sued by the acting Director of Information and Statistics at the Kano State Shari’a Court of Appeal, Muzambilu Ado, in a suit filed before the National Industrial Court challenging his compulsory retirement from the state’s judicial service.
Ado is suing the Kano State Judicial Service Commission, Governor Yusuf and the state commissioner for justice, seeking ₦100 million in damages for what he described as the unlawful termination of his appointment.
The Kano State Judicial Service Commission had on July 6, announced Ado’s compulsory retirement, alleging that investigations uncovered irregularities in his academic records, including the alteration of credentials and his admission into the Nigerian Law School without the commission’s approval.
However, Ado denied the allegations, maintaining that he never submitted forged academic certificates and that all his qualifications are authentic.
According to him, he obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Imperial University College in Sudan, after transferring from another institution.
He added that the university had confirmed the validity of both his admission and graduation.

Ado further alleged that he was neither served with a petition nor issued a formal query before the disciplinary action was taken against him, describing the process as a breach of civil service rules and a violation of his right to fair hearing.
In the suit, he is asking the court to declare his compulsory retirement null and void, overturn the Nigerian Law School’s decision to expel him, and award him ₦100 million as compensation for the alleged damage to his reputation and professional career.
