The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Mutawakilu Ibrahim, for allegedly stabbing his grandparents to death during a violent altercation over food. The shocking incident took place on Thursday morning, September 25, 2025, at Kofar Dawanau Quarters in Kano.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspect attacked his 75-year-old grandfather, Muhammad Dansokoto, and his 65-year-old grandmother, Hadiza Tasidi, during an argument over food. The couple sustained multiple knife injuries and was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where doctors confirmed them dead. Their remains were later released to family members for burial in line with Islamic rites.

Police said the matter was reported by a concerned resident, and preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect may have been under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the attack. Following the directive of Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section for further investigation.
The suspect remains in custody and is expected to face charges in court once investigations are concluded.
The tragic killing has sparked outrage across Kano, with residents expressing shock over the gruesome attack and the growing concerns of drug abuse among youths in the state.
