The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated N63.08 billion as revenue in the first half of 2026, representing a 7.4 percent increase over the N58.39 billion realised during the corresponding period of 2025.

Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller U.U. Adamu, disclosed this on Wednesday, while presenting the command’s half-year performance report at the Customs House in Kano.

Adamu said the command realised N63,078,655,523.44 between January and June 2026, attributing the improved performance to enhanced compliance measures, operational reforms and intelligence-driven initiatives despite a decline in cargo throughput.

He revealed that the Kano Free Trade Zone generated over N26 billion within the six-month period, exceeding its total revenue for the whole of 2025 by about N4 billion.

According to him, the command also recovered about N3 billion from the abuse of transit procedures through stricter monitoring and enforcement.

The acting controller said the command reviewed its administrative and operational processes after he assumed office, introducing measures aimed at improving efficiency, strengthening compliance, suppressing smuggling and boosting revenue generation in line with the service’s mandate.

On enforcement, Adamu said the command recorded seizures with a cumulative duty paid value of N1.71 billion during the period under review.

According to him, the seizures included unregistered pharmaceuticals, four air pistols, elephant tusks, over 2,000 jerrycans of foreign packaged vegetable oil, military gear, smuggled vehicles, prohibited food items, counterfeit agrochemical packaging materials and 14 transit containers linked to cargo diversion.

He added that 22 suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures, noting that while some had been handed over to relevant security and regulatory agencies for further investigation, others were granted administrative bail.

Adamu further disclosed that the command intercepted 568,100 United States dollars, 134,256 Saudi Riyals, 28 Chinese Yuan, 20 Ghana Cedis and 35 kilogrammes of silver bars valued at N175 million at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport over alleged violations of the Anti-Money Laundering Act.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations, facilitating legitimate trade and improving revenue generation in the second half of the year.
