The Kano State Hisbah Board has warned the public not to pay anyone for registration into the state’s forthcoming mass wedding programme, insisting that the exercise is completely free.

Key Highlights

  • The Kano State Hisbah Board has warned residents against paying money for registration into the state’s upcoming mass wedding programme.
  • The board said the registration and entire programme are completely free.
  • Deputy Commander-General Mujahideen Aminuddeen said Governor Abba Yusuf has fully funded the initiative.
  • The funding covers wedding attire, furniture, furniture transportation, and start-up capital for beneficiaries.
  • The board denied authorising any individual or government official to collect money from prospective participants.

The board’s Deputy Commander-General, Mujahideen Aminuddeen, issued the warning on Wednesday in Kano, following reports that some individuals were collecting money from intending beneficiaries under the pretext of facilitating their registration.

According to Aminuddeen, Governor Abba Yusuf has fully funded the programme, covering wedding attire, furniture, transportation of the furniture, and start-up capital for all beneficiaries.

He stressed that neither the Hisbah Board nor any government official had authorised anyone to collect money from prospective participants.

“The governor has paid for everything. Nobody should pay for anything because the entire programme is completely free,” he said.

Aminuddeen urged anyone approached by individuals demanding payment to report the incident immediately to the Hisbah board or relevant security agencies for investigation and necessary action.

The warning comes amid reports of fraudsters attempting to exploit the state government’s free mass wedding initiative by extorting unsuspecting applicants.
