The Kano State government has donated 15 cows, 115 bags of 50kg rice, 40 jerry cans of 25kg cooking oil and other assorted food ingredients to inmates in correctional centres across the state as part of activities marking the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The donation, presented to the Nigerian Correctional Service Kano State Command, was described as part of efforts by the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf to support vulnerable groups and improve inmates’ welfare.
Presenting the items, Chairperson of the Prerogative of Mercy Committee, Azumi Bebeji, said the gesture underscored the state government’s commitment to the welfare, dignity and rehabilitation of inmates.
She conveyed Gov. Yusuf’s goodwill message to inmates and urged them to continue praying for peace, unity and progress in the state.

According to her, the governor remains committed to policies and interventions aimed at restoring hope and dignity to inmates undergoing rehabilitation in correctional facilities.
Bebeji added that the administration places premium importance on social welfare, compassion and correctional support initiatives designed to promote reformation and reintegration of inmates into society.
Receiving the items on behalf of the correctional service, Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ahmed Lakpene, commended the state government for what he described as consistent support for inmates across the state.
He said the donation would boost the morale of inmates and enable them to celebrate the Sallah period with a sense of belonging.
“On behalf of the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, we sincerely appreciate the Kano State government for its unwavering support to inmates in Kano State,” he said.
The correctional service reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare, reformation and rehabilitation of inmates in line with global best practices.
