Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has postponed the trial of former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello until June 26 and 27, and July 3 and 4, 2025, respectively.
The court will decide on a request made by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to question its third witness, Nicholas Ojehomon, again about the school fees of Bello’s children at the American International School, Abuja.
The EFCC is charging Bello with 19 counts of financial crimes, including misappropriation of funds and money laundering, involving a total of N80.2 billion.
The EFCC’s request to re-examine the witness came after certain points were brought up during the witness’s earlier questioning that needed clarification.

Prosecution counsel, Olukayode Eniola explained that he wanted to address specific issues that were not fully covered during the defense cross- examination of the witness.
He noted that certain evidence concerning the school fees was introduced by the witness, but the defense tried to challenge it extensively.
Eniola urged the court to allow this re-examination, emphasizing the importance of fair trial and ensuring that both sides have the opportunity to clarify their cases.
He argued that denying the request could lead to unfairness in the trial, especially since the defense introduced the document in question.
After hearing arguments from both sides, Justice Nwite scheduled a ruling on the EFCC’s request for June 26 and 27, 2025, and will continue with the trial on July 3 and 4, 2025.
