Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, representing Delta South Senatorial District, has taken the lead in congratulating Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other key members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Describing the development as “historic” and “a new dawn for Delta,” the senator praised the governor’s bold decision to join the APC, calling it a strategic step toward unity, progress, and the advancement of the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This is not just a political switch—it is a moment of destiny for Delta State,” Senator Joel-Onowakpo said in an official statement. “I wholeheartedly welcome Governor Oborevwori and all incoming members to the APC family. Their decision marks the beginning of a stronger, more inclusive, and purpose-driven Delta.”
The senator emphasized that the defection signifies a turning point for governance and political collaboration in the state. He urged all APC members to embrace the new entrants with open arms, stressing that unity within the party would be crucial for delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.
“As leaders, we must rise above past divisions and focus on building a Delta that works for everyone,” he added. “This defection aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which is rooted in national unity, economic empowerment, and accountable leadership.”

Senator Joel-Onowakpo also reaffirmed his commitment to fostering political harmony and driving meaningful development across the state. He expressed confidence that the realignment would pave the way for a more responsive government—one that listens, includes, and delivers.
“I congratulate Governor Oborevwori for his courage and vision. I also welcome every former PDP member who has chosen the path of progressive politics under the APC. Together, we will build a Delta that truly reflects the hopes and aspirations of its people,” he stated.
The defection of Governor Oborevwori, a sitting governor, along with his loyal supporters, is seen as a major boost for the APC in Delta State ahead of future elections. Political analysts believe this will further consolidate the party’s influence in the South-South region and reshape the dynamics of power in the state.
With the APC gaining new momentum and the backing of strong political figures across the board, Delta State may be entering a new era of transformative leadership—driven by unity, development, and progressive ideals.
