A 25-year-old man, Basiru Shuaibu, has died from severe burns after his younger brother, Abbas Ibrahim, allegedly poured petrol into his room and set it ablaze while Basiru and his wife were inside in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

Brother Allegedly Sets Jigawa Man’s Room Ablaze
According to the Jigawa State Police Command, the fire incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on September 29, 2026, at Nassarawa Village in Gwaram Local Government Area.
The police said Ibrahim allegedly entered his elder brother’s residence and set fire to the room where Basiru and his wife were sleeping.
The couple sustained serious burns and were taken by relatives to a traditional medicine practitioner for treatment. However, Basiru later succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the fire.
Police Arrest Suspect In Gwaram
Following the incident, police operatives arrested Ibrahim in Sara Town, Gwaram Local Government Area, and transferred him to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse, for further investigation.
The police command said the suspect had subsequently been arraigned in court.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged attack and the motive for the incident are expected to form part of the ongoing judicial process.
Man Allegedly Stabbed Over N500 Mobile Phone Balance
In a separate incident in Dutse Local Government Area, the police reported the death of 25-year-old Muhammad Abba, who was allegedly stabbed during a dispute over an outstanding N500 payment for a mobile phone.
The incident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on October 1, 2026, at Chamo Village. According to the police, Abba had purchased a mobile phone from 20-year-old Lawisi Safiyanu for N1,500 but paid only N1,000, leaving an outstanding balance of N500.
A dispute reportedly broke out when Abba was unable to immediately settle the balance. The police alleged that Safiyanu used a knife to stab Abba during the dispute.

Police Arrest Suspect, Recover Alleged Murder Weapon
Abba was rushed to the Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital, Dutse, for treatment but reportedly died while receiving medical attention.
Police operatives subsequently arrested Safiyanu and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack. The command said investigation into the case had been completed and the suspect was charged to court.
Jigawa CP Warns Residents Against Violence
The Commissioner of Police, Tijjani Murtala, urged residents to avoid violence and seek peaceful ways of resolving disputes.
He also advised members of the public to promptly report threats, suspicious activities and disputes to the police and other security agencies.
The police command reiterated the importance of early intervention and community cooperation in preventing violent incidents and protecting lives across Jigawa State.
