Key Highlights
- Jannik Sinner has ended his 2026 season early because of a right knee injury.
- The Italian has not played since successfully defending his Wimbledon title in July.
- Sinner finishes the season with a 44-3 win-loss record and six titles across three surfaces.

- Sinner will undergo treatment and rehabilitation before returning to competition.
The Italian has not competed since successfully defending his Wimbledon title in July. He said the decision followed consultations with his medical team and careful consideration of his long-term career.
Sinner to Undergo Knee Treatment and Rehabilitation
Sinner is now expected to undergo treatment on the knee before beginning his rehabilitation programme.
“I needed to think about my long-term career,” Sinner said in a video message, adding that he would do everything possible to return to competition at full fitness.
An Outstanding 2026 Season for the World No. 1
The 25-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding season, recording 44 victories against just three defeats. He also collected six titles across three different surfaces and won five successive Masters 1000 tournaments between March and May.
Zverev Now Eyes Year-End No. 1 Ranking
Sinner’s absence could significantly affect the battle for the year-end No. 1 ranking, with second-ranked Alexander Zverev now in a strong position to replace him at the top.
Zverev currently trails Sinner by 1,280 points in the live ATP rankings. However, Sinner will be unable to defend the points he earned from his title-winning runs in China, Vienna, Paris and the ATP Finals late last year.

From Australian Open Heartbreak to Wimbledon Glory
Sinner opened the 2026 season with a run to the Australian Open semi-finals, where he suffered a five-set defeat to Novak Djokovic.
He later endured a surprise second-round exit at the French Open against Juan Manuel Cerundolo, a result that ended his 30-match winning streak.
The defeat did not derail his season, as Sinner bounced back at Wimbledon. After overcoming a difficult opening-round encounter, he progressed through the tournament and defeated Zverev in the final to successfully retain his title.
Earlier in the season, Sinner also defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the Monte Carlo Masters final, a victory that helped him regain the world No. 1 position.
He ends his campaign with a 10-1 record against top-10 opponents, with his only defeat against a player in that group coming against Djokovic at the Australian Open.
Sinner will now turn his attention to treatment and rehabilitation as he aims to return to competitive tennis fully recovered and fit.
