Delta 2023: Concerned Isoko Elites endorse Joel-Onowakpo for senate

By Kelvin Ohoror

The leadership of Concerned Isoko Elites has registered their support for Hon. Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, All Progressives Congress(APC) candidate for the Delta South Senatorial District for the 2023 general election.

The president of the group, Comrade Mayor Blessing (aka Civilian General) who spoke to newsmen on behalf of the group on Sunday after their endorsement, said that, Hon. Joel-Onowakpo has been a philanthropist across the state, especially in areas such as scholarship programmes for the youths, youth empowerment programmes, and human capital development.

The group calls for the unflinching support of the people from Delta Ijaw, Itsekiri, Isoko and Warri-Urhobos for Hon. Joel- Onowakpo irrespective of political party affiliation.

Comrade Mayor further said that history shows that, the very high elective positions held by the senatorial district when Itsekiris had Governor (2007 -2015) and Ijaw had senate (2003 till date) are from other ethnic nationalities except the senator representing Delta South Senatorial District held by the Isoko nationality for four years (1999 -2003) hence they are appealing that Hon. Joel-Onowakpo be supported for equity and fairness.

The group also opined that, Hon. Joel-Onowakpo performed credibly well as Chairman of the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue during his tenure, that at that time workers across the state duly received their salaries before the end of each month.

They further emphasized that during the last eight years of this dispensation, the Isoko people have been grossly marginalized in high political positions such as the Deputy Governor and Senate positions held by Ijaws in Delta South Senatorial District; Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Delta Central Senatorial District and Secretary to the State Government, Delta North while the Isoko are left with nothing.
