Public pressure is mounting for a full Investigation of Ex-NNPCL Boss, Mele Kyari, following allegations of financial misconduct linked to an estimated N210 trillion reportedly raised during Senate proceedings on the financial operations of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

The calls for deeper scrutiny come amid an ongoing Senate Committee on Public Accounts investigation into the financial records and transactions of the NNPCL.
The committee, chaired by Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, had previously considered invoking constitutional powers after lawmakers accused Kyari of repeatedly failing to honour invitations to appear before the panel.
The move followed a motion sponsored by Senator Victor Umeh, who argued that the committee could no longer delay scrutiny into financial figures running into trillions of naira reportedly reflected in NNPCL accounts.
The session took a tense turn when Senator Tony Nwoye informed lawmakers that Kyari was allegedly receiving medical treatment in Germany and therefore unable to attend the hearing.
“I spoke to Mele Kyari about a week ago. He promised that he would be here. But incidentally, I learned last night that the man is hospitalized in Germany,” Nwoye told the committee.
His statement was challenged by Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, who accused him of defending the former NNPCL chief, triggering a brief exchange during the proceedings.
Nwoye, however, maintained that he was not acting on Kyari’s behalf but merely relaying information available to him.
Kyari, in a response, insisted that he had not ignored Senate invitations and said he had formally notified the committee of his medical travel abroad.
The Senate later withdrew the arrest warrant earlier issued against him and clarified that comments attributed to Senator Adams Oshiomhole describing the NNPCL as “a bunch of criminals and thieves” did not reflect the position of the Senate.
The development has since triggered widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians questioning the decision and demanding stronger accountability measures.

On social media platform X, users expressed anger over the allegations and the handling of the Senate inquiry, with several calling for an independent and transparent investigation.
Some commentators argued that corruption cases involving public officials should attract severe penalties, while others insisted that no individual should be protected from scrutiny.
Others urged national unity in demanding accountability, stressing that public office holders must be held responsible regardless of political or regional affiliations.
As public debate intensifies, pressure continues to grow for a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the allegations surrounding the Investigation of Ex-NNPCL Boss, with citizens calling for clarity, due process, and institutional accountability.
