The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned Abubakar Mohammed Aseku, an Assistant Superintendent of Immigration, for allegedly receiving salaries from three government agencies simultaneously.
Mr. Aseku appeared before Justice Binta Dogonyaro of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Apo, Abuja, on Tuesday, facing a nine-count charge related to abuse of office and corruption.
According to the ICPC, he unlawfully received N4.2 million in salaries from the Nasarawa State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology in 2015 while working as a schoolteacher, despite being on active duty with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS). Additionally, between 2018 and 2019, he allegedly collected N13.4 million in salaries from the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) while still employed by the NIS.
Further investigations revealed that as a Pay Officer with the NIS, Aseku allegedly facilitated the payment of N4.7 million in salaries to seven individuals who were neither employees of the service nor listed on its payroll.

One of the charges against him states that he used his position to “confer corrupt advantage upon himself” by receiving over N13.4 million from the DPR while serving as an Immigration Officer. The alleged offense contravenes Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.
Mr. Aseku pleaded not guilty to all charges. His lawyer, Basil Hemba, urged the court to maintain the bail conditions previously granted to him by another FCT High Court in Maitama. Justice Dogonyaro upheld the existing bail terms.
The prosecution, led by ICPC counsel Michael Adesola, requested an adjournment to present witnesses. The case was subsequently adjourned to April 29, 2025, for further hearing.
